Everything you need to know about how Stripe transfers funds to your bank account, including schedules, speeds, fees, and instant payouts.

What is a Payout?

A payout is the transfer of funds from your Stripe merchant account to your business's general bank account. While customers pay you directly, the funds first land in your Stripe balance before being bundled and sent to your bank according to your settings.

For businesses using platforms like Shopify or DoorDash, payouts typically come from the platform rather than directly from Stripe, though the underlying mechanics remain similar.

Stripe Payout Schedule

Your payout schedule is the cadence at which Stripe sends money to your bank. In most countries, Stripe defaults to an automatic daily schedule.

Automatic Options

  • • Daily (default)
  • • Weekly (fixed day)
  • • Monthly (fixed date)

Manual Payouts

You can choose to initiate payouts manually at any time via the Stripe Dashboard if you prefer to hold funds longer.

Country Restrictions

In Brazil and India, payouts are always automatic and daily. In Japan, daily payouts are currently unavailable.

Payout Speed

Payout speed refers to how quickly funds from a specific transaction become available for payout. This is typically expressed as T + X days.

  • Standard Speed: Most countries operate on a T+3 schedule (3 business days).
  • Accelerated: Low-risk businesses in the US and Canada may qualify for 3-day or even 2-day speeds.
  • High-Risk: Certain industries may have an extended payout speed of up to 14 days.
Note: Your very first payout usually takes 7–14 days to process as Stripe verifies your account and risk profile.

Currencies & Bank Accounts

Stripe supports over 135 currencies for acceptance. You can choose the settlement currency in which you want to receive your funds.

If you want to receive payouts in multiple currencies (e.g., EUR and SEK in Sweden), you will need to add a separate bank account for each currency to your Stripe Dashboard.
